Have you considered the inconvenience of having your washer and dryer outside of your home? Do you plan to sell at some point? That will hurt resale value.
Just think - 2 loads of laundry means 4 trips to the garage. As the person who does the laundry in my household- hell. no.
You'd have to have a second water heater in the detached garage. You're not going to be able to run hot water lines out of the house across the yard and over to the garage, without getting at best lukewarm water by the time it gets there.

Once I am home, I like to get into comfy clothes & slippers. No way would I want to don winter boots & Jackets to go out & do laundry on a winters evening. Look for a more creative solution inside your main home.
Well, no, for that matter you don't "have to have" electricity either. Wash tub and wash board will do just fine.
A couple of rocks will do.
Seriously, OP, in one of my houses the laundry was in the basement which was accessed via the attached garage. That was PITA enough for me. If I had to drag it outside I’d rather jump in the car and take it to a laundromat. At least there you can do all your loads at once.
I wouldn't even want to consider hauling out a basket of laundry to wash (going outside of the house to do this) - going back out there to the dryer and then back out there to haul in the basket of dried laundry.
The house is from the 1930s, so not set up for it. In fact when I first moved here the washer was in the kitchen area. I finally set up a laundry and storage area in the former kitchen dining area. It works, but I want that space back.
It doesn't freeze a great deal here so it wouldn't be that hard to keep the lines from freezing. And really I don't see any issue with hauling the stuff out there.
Would not bother me. Will see how it goes.
