We are not sure what to do.
We had an agreement with our sellers for
a new hvac.
Unfortunately we found this summer after $900
and 4 hvac companies that
1 the hvac company never even attached the ducts in
the attic
2 they put in an undersized unit
We called the hvac company who we supposedly had
a one year warranty with the man came with
no tools - lectured us that Florida was warm and
left.
So Im assuming he knew what he did.
When we found out everything hvac owner informed us
we didnt pay him so he didn’t have any responsibilities
for the unit.
What does the contract say?
Was the AC guy licensed?
If the work was not completed file a complaint against his license with the state contractor board and go after his bond to finish the job

May be time to get a lawyer.
I agree, there may be some recourse, but even with a written agreement it depends on the wording. The sellers can prove that a new HVAC system was done, by their receipt. Unless specified warranties are not normally transferable.
What does your contract say word for word? How long ago was the closing? Have you actually repaired the HVAC? Going through 4 HVAC companies isn't normal. Where are you finding them?
The OP has already stated that it has been determined that the unit is undersized. Actual size of A/C and sq/ft is irrelevant at this point.
Whether it is undersized is definitely not stipulated. A competitor HVAC company telling you that its undersized isn't reliable.
