On the flip side, don't start expressing yours and get upset when the other person doesn't agree with you.
That's not what OP did.

I do, I do! When I was a kid I asked my Mom "are we Republican or Democrat"? I really had no clue, just heard the terms on the TV during election times, I guess. Well, she didn't want to answer me! That is how private she felt about her politics. I subscribe to the same philosopy, most of the time........I don't want to make enemies, in today's society, with people I am already friends with or hope to make some connection with.

Check on yelp or some of the review sites in your area. If you find a spot to put your opinion I'd be tempted to put "he does a good job, cleans up after finishing, but carries on and on about politics, not caring if you share the same opinion." Or something along those lines.

They were in total opposition to mine.

Mind you, I didn't bring up politics but just said how happy I was to be getting this job done since I had to put it off. He said some pretty insulting things, thinking I was of the same mind. I kept my mouth shut about my opinions.

Well, any chance of me ever calling him back to do any work at my house went out the window right then and there.

Pro tip: Be professional, people.
I've had this experience and it sucks.

You're welcome to pass on to tradespeople that they aren't being hired for political commentary or to share pornography and they should focus on the work, or there may in fact be ramifications to that choice on their part. They are in control of their own actions and the OP is under no obligation to rehire someone who behaved, in her opinion, inappropriately regardless of whether the work itself was satisfactory.
I went back to be sure the OP didn't mention pornography. Sure enough, it isn't there. So, I must say, nice re-direction. It also tells me you got nuffin' and agree with my previous statements. Welcome home.

I also agree with you. The OP is under zero obligation to hire this person in the future. The OP can go hire someone else, and hope they'll get a person with the same political leanings as the OP, regardless of the quality of the work being done...

Me, personally, would want quality work done. As I don't care what leanings a person has. They're only going to be in my houses until the work is done, then they're outta there. Crazy, I guess.

Must be a real bummer to only hire/deal with/talk to people that have the same political views as you seem to. Ever notice the people on both extreme ends of the political spectrum smell the same? They sure seem to.

Pornography? Seriously, WTF?

Next time, insert the word "child" as it may get more clicks...

I watch sports on tv and get politics.
I pay to see a concert and get politics.
Go to watch a parade and see politics.
Read the local newspaper and see political bias.
Go to the movies and see politics.
Watch Tv drama shows and see lots of politics.
Listen to music on the radio and hear politics.
I watch a award show and see politics.
Walk through the local mall and see political propaganda messaging through out.

As you go through everyday life today, where don't you get a unwanted display of politics?

As a real estate appraiser in Los Angeles I am in one or two strangers' homes every day. Most are liberals and I am conservative. I do chat with the homeowner about recent improvements, etc, but I am careful NEVER to mention politics (why would I ?) unless they bring it up (which happens A LOT). When it does come up, I just tend to roll with it and let them say what they want. I never offer an opinion either way. One funny story comes to mind. It was right after the 2016 election and I got a call for an estate appraisal in Venice (a rather liberal bastion). The lady came right out and asked who I voted for. "Oh, come on. Who do you think ? ", I said. She replied, "Good, because I'm not paying someone $ 950 who voted for Trump". I just said, "Well, I don't blame you".

My mother had this list: religion, politics, and other people's kids. Not necessarily in that order.

"Sex life" is not on the list as that was a given!

I always found it best to not even talk to the workers in my apartment / house, whatever, other than answer a question pertaining to the task they are performing.
To me, it distracts them from doing their work, wastes time and to me, there is no need for it.

I also think it weould make them feel uncomfortable as I wouldn't want them to think I am watching over their shoulder.

I am adamant about this as when I was younger and used to go to peoples houses to paint or wallpaper, I found it very annoying if the homeowner would talk to me while I was doing my task.

Obviously as a 20 something at the time, I was not interested in anything a suburban housewife had to talk about at all, or whether or not I liked the wallpaper she chose or the color of the walls she choose.
To me, I didn't care, I wasn't living with it, and it really wasn't for me to like or dislike, or to voice my opinion on it either.

All I was there to do was to do a good job, (word of mouth is the best) at whatever task I was hired to do, and then leave.
I used to do this after my regular job for extra money, so socializing wasn't on my agenda.

Of course in this day and age, talking any type of politics is a complete no-no.
here in the office that subject is completely forbidden.

Some people also think because i am one way would mean Id vote for or like so and so, and I was not about to correct them or let them know, so any time anyone here at the office asks me, I say point blank, I don't discuss politics at al.
