When you call a contractor, you are ultimately paying for a completed job (regardless of how labor is itemized - or not - on the invoice). Once you start trying to micromanage their behavior and schedule, you start acting like you employ them. Careful - they might mail you a W4!

They aren't being paid to express political opinions of any sort. And I most certainly am entitled to manage their behavior- they aren't smoking a cigarette in my house, for instance. This is no different.

Yup. Feels like 100 yrs ago. And frankly, when politics IS one of the most interesting topics, if people can keep their emotions in check, talking about it would be so good for us as a whole. sigh.....oh well.

Whoa Whoa Whoa....she put herself in this position....if what she's in is a position. She could have said "I never discuss politics."Or walked away....oh, I hear my dryer is done....anything. If he was insulting, I suppose that could be a reason not to hire someone again, then that is her call.
He didn't invade her space. She HIRED him.

Fortunately my ears are labelled "in" and "out" and my feet still work so I can walk away if I feel the need.

This is really an unfair thing to do, but you sound like you enjoy the thought. If he did good work, would you leave the same crappy review?

Too many people today are quick to 'punish' people.

Yep. From where I stand, you can't willingly engage in conversation and then cry foul when someone's views don't align with your own.

Of course, one is free to hire/not hire whoever one wants, but I find this rather silly.

If you want to keep things completely professional, then don't engage in conversation other than basic pleasantries or specific to the job at hand. It takes at least two to have a conversation, so I won't put any "blame" on one party.
