Hello. Not looking for referrals or anything.....just would like to hear from people who had their kitchen cabinets painted from brown to off-white or cream.

Are you happy you did it?

Did it cheapen the look of your cabinets.

Do you regret doing it.

Did you do a "distress" or not? If so, was that a good choice

Thanks for your thoughts.

Are they brown paint or brown stain? Paint over paint or paint over stain is different.

Are the cabinets in excellent condition? If not, don't bother painting. Replace.

Is this DIY or professional done in a shop? Painting kitchen cabinets is not easy to do properly.

What does your kitchen and the rest of the house look like? The cabinets are not in a vacuum; they must work with your house.

I will say that it will look good IF it's a properly done job. It will not cheapen the look of the house, but if it's not done well it will be horrible.

House was built in 2014. Cabinets are nice. Not sure if they are painted or stained. Floor plan is open...the kitchen faces the living room which has a floor to ceiling fireplace with white built-ins on either side. The kitchen is just very, very dark. Will be having a professional company, which I won't name, that has excellent reviews, do the job.

I would go for it. Nothing worse than a dark kitchen.

I painted the cabinets in one of our bathrooms. I used a special cabinet paint. They turned out really nice. They were wood cabinets that I painted a creamy white color. It really brightened up the bathroom and made it look more modern. I replaced the faucets and hardware too. I left the countertop/sinks combo. It looked fine. It was an inexpensive upgrade.

The kitchen had the same cabinets but I would definitely hire professionals to do them though. It was an open kitchen as well and I don't paint that good! You really want it to look spotless.

There's a whole thread here on painting kitchen cabinets with some very good advice. ChessieMom did her own and did an outstanding job. You just have to have patience, prep properly and use the right products.

This creates a very nice custom look.

Yes, do it. Lighten up that kitchen and you'll lighten everyone's mood.
