Soooo...I just had a super nice shed built, and I have double outswing doors on it, and now I need to install a door lock.

Pretty sure I am buying this one - I don't need a fancy smartlock (and I darn sure don't need to spend $250 on it) so I am going with this basic pushbutton deadbolt, and a handset.

I have never installed a door lock before, but I am fairly handy so I am thinking about trying it and not bothering my BF to do it for me. Whaddaya think? Are they tricky? I always thought they were, but I really don't know.

I tried to do something simple like switch out the knobs in my last house.

I failed miserably. Could not understand the instructions. Got the old knob OFF but could not get the new knob ON. Felt like a total moron.

Given many of your posts, I think you are NOT like me at all. So go for it!

You can do it! Did you also get a slidebolt or something else to secure the other door leaf? Otherwise, the deadbolt won't do any good.

You can do it, but as Johah has pointed out, you'll need at least one flush bolt to secure one of the two double doors. Plus, you'll need to know how to mortise out the pockets with a wood chisel (unless you're handy with a router), how to use a hole saw, and you probably already know how to drill a hole with a paddle bit.

Seeing as this is an outdoor shed, could you consider a padlock hasp or padlock eyes instead?

Padlock Hasp

Padlock Eyes

The left door has a built-in slide bolt. Double bores were drilled in the right door only as that is the one that will be used most of the time.

If the door is already set up for a deadbolt and knob it's pretty easy.

No - the doors have already had bores drilled. These are full-sized fiberglass doors - pricey. This is not a "padlock" type of shed.

Thanks. But I just realized that BF will need to drill the slidebolt holes - no way am I going to risk screwing that up - he'd kill me. I guess I will wait and let him do the whole thing.

You're also going to need a regular door knob, or an entry set if you want it keyed, for that other hole.
