This is a piece from the table I am restoring for my father, I cannot figure out what species of wood it is, Looks like cedar or poplar to me, but I dont think its either of them...? This is sanded down to the bare wood btw.

That appears to be poplar....can you dent it with your fingernail ?

Very possible that’s it’s maple.

It would help if you could post a photo of the end grain.

If this is an older antique-y type table/made in USA; it’s most likely Cherry.

If the origin of the table is unknown, it looks a lot like Sapele.

Its either a dark Cherry or Sapele, From pictures Ive seen, Im thinking the latter. Its tough to see the end grain, a very dark stain had been used on this piece, the end grains are almost black, I cannot dent the wood with a fingernail though.

Sapele or some other mahogany relative. Definitely not cherry.

This is the table top piece, freshly belt sanded to remove all the stains and imperfections over the years, looks to be the same wood as the legs and middle piece..?

From the pics provided, I would say NOT sapele. Sapele has a real "grainy" look, but your last pic is pretty blurry and none are close-up so it's hard to say, definitively.
