Why can't I find what I am looking for? Maybe I don't know what they are actually called. In my kitchen, behind the counters, and in my bathroom, the walls are covered with some form of plastic panels. Clearly they came in panels, maybe 4X8 foot? And have little plastic strips over the seams. Can be cut to fit? The kitchen panels are little white squares (but clearly come in a whole panel) and the bathroom also little squares (well, rectangles) with a soft color floral pattern on them.
Does anyone know what I am talking about? I can't find anything like this in any search. Just tiles that have to be grouted or ship lap, or these hideous 3 d things. Where are the normal looking wall panels for bathrooms and kitchens and (what I want it for) laundry rooms?
Acrylic wall panels which are usually used to line the walls of a shower enclosure. They are available in a few different colors and have corner and splicing trim pieces that can be purchased.
It may be Marlite which was a Masonite material with a plastic finish bonded to the face. I don't think it is made that way any longer but is now a fiberglass product still called Marlite. Home Depot sells some varieties, among others.
The embossed tile, if white, may be common tileboard. It is an inexpensive masonite product. There also is a plastic version, but the sheets are much smaller, IIRC.
Plastics like that are used a lot in RVs and trailers, where weight can be an issue.
How old is the installation? And pictures might help. A long time ago Congoleum made a product called Congowall. Think of linoleum sheet goods for walls. My parents bought a house in the mid 60s that had used it to 'upgrade/rehab' a kitchen and bathroom when a previous owner divided a nice farm house into two apartments (There were also seven layers of linoleum on the kitchen floor). I doubt that is what you have but knowing the age would help.
Some of that stuff that looks like tile, if you look at the back side, is a paper fiberboard type product. I have used it before, and came back the next day to find it all bowed up with the change in humidity. Had to rip at all back down.
Now the FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) is pretty good stuff, but it takes a special adhesive. You see it a lot in restaurant kitchens and bathrooms, and I have used it for shower walls in my rentals.

Yes, it’s very common for commercial use!
