my rat terrier dog is a great mouser. The cats, not so much
Yes we have all of a sudden developed a mouse problem. We tried to be nice with sonic type things that were supposed to drive them away. I finally gave up and bought traps that were baited with poison. The traps didn't work, but just throwing the poison bait did.

Terriers are great small animal hunters. There were no critters in my parents' house when they had Westies. There were no squirrels, cats, or birds in the yard, either.
I think your cats are already dining on them. Cats eat all of the mouse but sometimes leave a tail behind.
LOL--my cat was trying to play with the mouse I found last year (pawing at him). This was the strangest thing--the mouse was sitting out from the wall in my dining room, just sitting there. I went up to it with a plastic container and placed it over him, picked him up (in the container) and carried it outside. I think there was something wrong with it (and yes, he probably got back into the house later but I just couldn't kill it right there); probably my cat did get to him and tossed him around a bit. I've never seen a mouse just sit there and let you come up to it.
But I do second the post about those traditional snap traps for mice baited with peanut butter. My first mouse problem, we set those things up and bam--literally within a half hour the first one snapped and then the second one went much the same way (I think there was more of a time delay). We continued to put them in there until there was no more mice (I think it killed 3 of them).
I think I have a mouse!!! I've found two things nibbled on. For those that have had an issue, how did you figure out where it got it? I would set snap trap(s) (although I don't know what I'd do if one was caught and squealing in it!!! - anyway, any tips?

I have put traps inside a box on it's side along the wall so if it gets caught, I can just pick up the box and not touch the trap.
That's a great idea! I don't know where I would put them though - I have a Cape Cod, basement (unfinished but w/a door to outside stairwell) - main level (front door and door out to the screened porch) and an upper level. I have a small galley kitchen so not much space to put a box or boxes w/a trap(s) - also, what did you bait them with? Thanks!
Thank you - still skeeves me out to have to get traps and kill them/it. The entire outdoors is theirs but inside my house is NOT their territory! LOL. Lived here for 30 yrs. and never had this issue.
