We now have a Whirlpool, stainless steel inside and out, and while it takes a long time, it uses little water and does a good job cleaning. It doesn't have a food grinder so we rinse first if anything is left on plates. Before that we had a Samsung that lasted only two years, and the repair guy suggested that we buy a new one, it was not worth the cost of fixing.
My home is 28 years old. The first one was Whirlpool (14 yrs) and was replaced, but was still working (remodel). The replacement was a Kenmore and lasted 3 years and failed, in fact all the Kenmore appliances have been replaced since the remodel. The current dishwasher is a Bosch is 8 years old (I think) and has been the best of the three. I did the installs.
Samsung, cleans the dishes okay but I hate the oddball sizing for dishes and the unremovable extra racks above where the glasses go--they get in my way every other day.
I need extra storage in my kitchen, and my unused dishwasher fits the bill nicely. I've always thought these were a ridiculous addition to the kitchen. Unless you can fill it up with Thanksgiving dinner dishes for the whole family, it's a waste of hot water and detergent to run it, and you essentially have to WASH the dishes and utensils before you place them inside (again, unless you fill it and run it immediately), so... Just WASH the dishes and utensils already! It's really not that hard. Also, there was a lot of family bonding that took place with one person washing and another drying, and that quaint custom has disappeared.

No, you do not have to wash anything before putting in the dishwasher.
Dishwashers use less water than hand washing.
I prefer family bonding in others ways than washing dishes, lol.
I love my Bosch…so quiet. That said, it’s kind of ridiculous for me to run it. Since I don’t run it daily, I have the dishes spotless, so I really could just put them up.
I have a Kitchenaid. Super quiet (39 db) and that’s why I chose it. Does a good enough job getting everything clean. The “Pro Wash” cycle is very long (approx. 4 hours) but I just run it at night.
I’m old school I wash my dishes before putting them in dish washer , also my good China gets hand washed , but only comes out holidays so not so bad, plus just found out last year I could take the black front off my dish washer and it’s white underneath Although I did have a fridge like that too once , white underneath the black , didn’t try doing it though .
