I have a small outdoor non functioning fountain that I would like tiled with 4x4 ceramic tiles with some cross hatching for the border tiles. How many hours should it take a tile setter to complete this job? I have attached a photo of the 11 square foot fountain.
Probably not more than a half a day's worth of work, but....
Time to come out and look at it, and help you pick out the tile.
Time to prep the surface and get rid of years of grunge.
Time to lay out, cut and install the new tiles.
Time to install sealer.
Time to run out for grout/sealer/tile/mastic.
Time to come back the next day and put the grout in and wipe down the area.
OP, you can expect to pay for a days work. It is one of those little jobs that nobody wants to do, kills more time than it is worth, has LOTS of room for the buyer (you) to be unhappy, and means that the contractor can't do much the rest of the day after he spends half of it running around and doing your little 11 sq. foot project.
None of us like it......but it is what it is. Suck it up; in the overall scheme of life the few hundred bucks will pale in comparison to your enjoyment of the finished product.
I already have all of the tile, thin set, grout, and sealer. What would you recommend to remove the grunge on the surface? That might be something I could do to help prepare the tile setter.
What do you mean by waterproofing the tile? Won't the tile adhere to the surface via thin set mortar?
Depending on the intricacy of the design, the type of tile and his difficult a cut you want it can be upwards of a day or even two.
If you did ALL the design, got the tile and laid it out I would say 1 day for install 1/2 day for grout and finish. You can get the tile rent a tile cutter and diy.
Its a small job with a lot of curve cuts; so many will bid higher because of that. They get it good; they don't. oh well.
