One thing you might ask is "What are they trying to hide ?" Maybe used, scrap, mis-matched, fake brick ?

It is a look that the builder wants to convey
And because it is being seen in one particular area is likely a trend there that sells
I doubt any builder is going to use such a dramatic building technique if houses with it sit on the market

Unlike aluminum siding from the 50s
Painted brick has been around for hundred of years
Done right it can coverup some pretty hideous brick colors that were used originally
It is about making the right choice
Painted brick usually makes a house appear more contemporary and other aspects might need to be updated/changed as well to go with that “look”
But many historical homes have also been painted so it can be traditional look as well
Agreed...not to mention the plenty of other longterm benefits of brick...it's quiet and strong.
Historically, brick was often whitewashed. The lime wash provides material benefits while turning the home white. It's antimicrobial and in hot climates reduces heat absorption. I also think that in some humid environs it probably prevents mold, etc. That's why it's traditionally used inside dairy barns.
Painted brick is the best and makes even a modest home more regal. There are probably more painted brick homes in Virginia and DC than unpainted brick homes (probably the same case in NC and MD too).

Actually it makes it look like the flippers have gotten hold of it, slapped a cheap coat of paint, put in the cheapest possible granite countertops, and now they're trying to pass it off for about $100k more than it's worth.

That’s not an “issue”- that’s stupidity! Since this thread is about the exterior- I’ll assume you are referring to the exterior. Painted trim can last 50+yrs if maintained properly. Non-painted trim would rot in a matter of years.

I’m not sure where you live but here in Richmond the painted brick homes are the most expensive and describable in town (same goes for Washington DC). There’s nothing fancy about brick. It the most basic and historical one of cheapest building materials. It’s baked mud. Maybe it’s more coveted in places where it is rare but here in the Mid Atlantic everything is brick, even the sidewalks.
Painting brick is pretty expensive, I don’t know of any flippers that go to that length.
I’m sorry to hear this. One thing I love about Tulsa and OKC is the prevalence of all brick homes at ALL price points. If they’re going to paint it, they might as well just use some sort of siding.
Brick is "some sort of siding" unless it is a much older or unique house with structural brick walls.
