About four days ago we woke up to find this in the kitchen sink, on the side without the garbage disposal. (See below).

We believe one of the cats put it there, but have no clue where she found it.

It may not be evident in the photo, but here's a groove running all around the inside of the gasket, suggesting it's supposed to fit around the outside of something. Beyond that I have no clue.

How big is it? And would it only fit over something that size, or would it stretch to fit over something larger?

Is it soft or firm?

Not knowing how big it is, my first thought is the bumper around the base of a vacuum.

If you lay a ruler next to it when photographing, it would help in identifying it.

Looks like the protective rubber around the sharp edge of my metal coffee filter.

When I find strange items in the house, I put them in the little basket where I throw my keys. If I haven't identified it in a year, I toss it.

No, too big for that.

It's maybe six or seven inches across diagonally, and it does stretch.
