This year, husband and I will be upgrading some of the lower level of our house, primarily cosmetics upgrades. We will do some of the simpler things ourselves and hire professionals for others.

As we're doing this in stages I'm curious if there is a particular order that we should complete specific activities. Here's what we plan on doing:
  • Complete a half-finished closet, replace door on another closet (Hiring professional)
  • Replace interior doors
  • Replace or paint trim around doors and windows
  • Replace or paint baseboard
  • Replace all carpet (Hiring professional)
  • Paint all walls

I've read that people typically replace or paint a baseboard *before* a new carpet is installed. Are there other activities that should be completed in a particular sequence? For example it would probably make sense to install the carpet before we finish the closets.

Thanks!
Autumn

It’s always best to follow “critical path”.

From your list- remove all that is being replaced.
Install all new trim/doors
Paint trim and doors
Paint walls
Install new flooring
