Hi All! Have posted before regarding the situation with my "contractor".....Many issues with the work. But, please take a look at the cabinets and farmhouse sink, range hood, and under cabinet work. We have six filler cabinets (not a big kitchen) and just seems unacceptable and unprofessional. He says "too bad". Acceptable or not? Cost of reno is 50k (without the additional 15k he is asking for)...These are just a few pics of dozens of issues.
Well that was a poor choice to make. Always ALWAYS get multiple RECENT referrals from neighbors that have had work done by that contractor. I would withhold payment until the deficiencies are corrected.
I’m so sorry. My husband is a carpenter and cabinet installer. He’d be appalled at the price and the quality. I would get rid of this guy and cut your losses. But I haven’t see the whole thing. Normally fillers can be kept to a minimum. Did you check any references? I’d be concerned by his general attitude as well.
I would not accept it, I am picky and fussy..I realize things can’t be perfect but this is just crap. We had our kitchen completely redone because of a fire. It was professionally done and I never had any complaints. You need to make sure you find a contractor other people recommend, and can see pictures of their work.
When we renovated our kitchen, we had one filler strip.
1-1/2 inches wide to accommodate light switches.
All the measurements for the cabinets were to the nearest 1/8 inch and the cabinet maker adhered to that accuracy.
We spent $52K.
We had great experiences with everyone (supervising gc, tile installer, cabinet maker, appliance dealer, electrician) but the countertop people who could not cut a proper hole for the cooktop. We had to have another company do it.
Thanks, everyone. If those pics upset you, you should see my heating vents, walls, baseboards, and door frames (YIKES!) I also believe he did not use a licensed electrician or plumber for any of the work. I have had issues with both (especially with electricity) since it has been worked on. Scary. I am so thankful that I insisted on permits being pulled, although he was very upset with me doing so. I believe he thought I would pay everything, including his additional 15k bill, before inspections. He was very threatening last night via text, demanding his final payments. I told him that I needed to make sure we pass inspections and complete all the work. He became enraged.

He has been putting off getting the final inspection and now I realize he wanted me to make a final payment, along his with his additional 15k bill and make a run for it before inspections. Stick to your plan. What is he going to do? Sue you?
Hold back final payment until the reno passes inspection - especially the electrical. I had licensed electricians who I think are pretty good, but they didn't pass the first time. They fixed the problem the next day and my house passed inspection.
