This. A hole saw at every stud. Drill though the stud. Snake the wire between the wallboard and the insulation. Normally, you screw furring behind the hole with sheet rock screws and replace the hole screwing to that. Mud and tape the seams.
Of course, there are older houses where this is impossible. A ranch on a slab probably has 2x4 framing, fiberglass insulation, and drywall.
