Front door has deadbolt and a handle with push button latch on outside and door knob on inside. The deadbolt mechanism in the door broke on the inside. Time to replace. Of course because of the age they don’t have an exact match so I had to buy the deadbolt and door latch assemble as a set as close to what was already there. Two small annoyances. The bottom of the grab handle and the deadbolt were both roughly 1/8 of an inch lower than the original hole and strike plate. Why couldn’t they be standardized for an exact fit? 1/8 of an inch.

So the old hole CAN be hidden by this plate correct?
Would you have preferred they made the plate shorter - to end above the old hole?

This might help too (if not YOU then the next person):

For the handle I used the drill pulling down towards the floor to elongate the hole for the 1/8 inch. Could have used a larger drill bit but there would have been too much play for handle movement. For the latch I used a chisel to take off 1/8 inch piece to lower plate. The previous owner used long wood screws for the plate. Reused these long screws. The door frame was hollow for the doorbell wiring. The long screws extended into the real frame of more security.

I would have been fine if the hole was an inch or half inch off from the previous hole. But the 1/4” hole would have to be moved down 1/8”. Can’t drill a new hole. Just made the hole longer in a downward direction using that 1/4” bit. Handle threads fit snugly in the hole.
