Next door to me is a lovely house and grounds. We are located in a forest but the people there removed every scrape of forest from their land and it is all manicured lawn. Looks very nice.
Almost the first thing when we moved in was that they came over, worried that we might remove our forest. I jump to the conclusion that they want to look at forest but not on their own property, but on someone else's property.
We removed enough of the forest to build a shop and RV barn and to put in a driveway to that same shop, and to put in a small number of fruit trees.
Now the neighbors have a worker out putting slats into the chain link fence so they don't have to look at our shop and driveway. I guess that they are pretty irritated that we removed some the forest that was their favorite scenery. We did leave a nice screen of trees along the fence and the shop and new fruit trees are very clean and neat. Not so much as a rubber band littering the ground and the lights are left off and there is almost no activity at all with the shop.
I do go out and check the fruit trees every day, so maybe they don't want to see me walking around.
I've seen people in my area use riding mowers equipped with a headlight at dusk to avoid heat. It's reasonable. Possibly the new neighbor had very young children and was trying to get them to sleep? It would be different if the mowing was done by a lawn care company - I wouldn't expect to hear their mowing that late.
That’s why I got a rear engine riding mower. Makes a big difference in heat. With the engine in front of you you’re driving the heat back to you as you move forward. With the engine behind you the heat is left behind as you move forward. Another option is to get a riding mower canopy for some sun protection. Downside to that idea is you’re constantly moving around and so sometimes you aren’t in the shade of the canopy and the canopy can get caught on branches. I plan on ordering a shirt I found on the Dickies website which is loose long sleeve white shirt with some cooling properties. My goal isn’t to be cooler, it’s to provide an extra layer of protection from the sun. I have red hair and freckles. I don’t burn as easily as my sister but I did lose an uncle to skin cancer thanks to his years of trying to get a tan and playing out in the sun. I’m 53 now and did spend time in the sun getting sunburns as a kid but now I’m a bit more cautious and have my wife check my back occasionally.
I would be very annoyed with the neighbor mowing at 7:30 a.m. if I were retired and one of my favorite things about retirement was finally being able to sleep later than 7:30 a.m.
