I am looking for something to cover/protect a power cord that is plugged into a floor mounted outlet. Due to the layout of the room & furniture, the outlet is exposed. I am able to hide most of the power cords under the couch, but the one from the power strip has to plug into that outlet (which is a single outlet).

I know they have covers for outlets not in use, but I am want something that will help stop someone from accidently kicking the cord, and is not the monstrosity that some of the outdoor covers are.

Thanks for any suggestions.

That's a very rational response.

I wouldn't think they'd have that sort of thing because it in itself would be a trip hazard. I can see where a floor outlet could be useful, but I've never liked them.

Is the layout such that you could place a small table over the outlet, or a potted plant on a stand ?

Here are two different possibilities but depending on the specific location of the outlet and furniture, with one might not work.

A cord cover or a raised outlet box with wiremold.

If you can't rearrange the furniture layout, and you can't put a small table or potted plant over or near the floor outlet, is there any way you can have an electrician move the outlet?

Surface mount or recessed outlet?

Use a flush 90 degree plug (hardware store) + Check Grainger or industrial supply places for solutions of exposed cords.

Or... Go fishing... (Run cord under carpet, rug, or flooring.)

My first thought is to change out the PLUG to one where the cord exits the side of the plug and the cord can then lie flat. My question is "Is this a trip hazard or just a kick and unplug issue?" A plastic chase will eliminate the kick and unplug, but if there was a real trip hazard, I'd rethink the use of that outlet.

Don't do this. It's a fire hazard.

I am assuming that the OP has an electrical outlet in the floor, and is trying to figure how to cover it. Right? Have an electrician taking care of it for you.

~If I assumed wrong, please accept my most sincere apology to all in this thread.

There are numerous covers that are designed to cover such outlets. You should be able to find them at the local electric shops in town, or even Lowe's Home depot, and so on:

As for someone knocking the cord off, you could always tray some of the suggestions by other posters. But at least the covers shown in the link do not protrude from the floor. I prefer the brass ones, but that's me
