Yay, but with restrictions.

Your typical yellow golden oak floors do look dated. Darker stained floors are the trend. But real wood floors are wonderful.

Here in humid florida I wouldn't have them, but I would if I could.

In Florida and some parts of California, I would choose high-end ceramic tile.
If you put a gun to my head in northern climes, I would go with engineered hardwood.

It’s still “hardwood”- just the “plywood” variety.

I just checked the experts at HGTV and they said that while wood floors are not out of style currently that dark colors for it are.

So, what the heck, I called my flooring installer to make sure he installs wood, and I am doing the entire house in hardwood.

I like vinyl plank a lot, but because I have been looking at vinyl plank all over the place, it occurred to me that the public might get over it after it is no longer "the latest thing" and they have seen it all over and gotten tired of it.

The "old fashioned" comment caught me off guard. but I know that the younger buyers don't seem to like wood of any kind. They want things to look like plastic, like the "white kitchen" cabinets that look like they are made of Melmac over chipboard, and they want furniture made of metal and glass instead of wood. So maybe they don't like wood floors either.

No matter. It is my house and I am getting the floors that I like.
This.

It's futile to try to "stay up with design/popularity fads."

You do what YOU want!

I could not agree more. The fake stuff is only more popular right now because it's dirt cheap and you can do it yourself.

I could always refinish my hardwoods to lighter or darker when I get ready to sale depending on what is trending at the time. There's no way that hardwoods are not more valuable.

I had a guy about 50 do mine. It was supposed to take 2 weeks. It took 5 weeks. It was a nightmare. I would so put hardwoods into a empty house before I move in next time. I would do so much different.

But, I know Oregon is a landlord/investor. So, that's a bit different.

I prefer carpet. More comfortable to sit on. Also better acoustics: less echo and reflection.

I think your friend is full of nonsense.

Carpet is fine for bedrooms. Carpet is a good option for stairs or bedrooms because it's warmer on one's feet, but I still kick myself I didn't do hardwood in a couple of rooms on our main floor. We could add it now and may do it one day.
