I would imagine some of the moisture output is lost. Think absorbed into carpet, furniture, curtains. Running the heat will also dry the air out as it recirculates.
Measure humidity properly. I remember making one of these when I was about ten years old out of two cheap thermometers, some string, and some lamp wicking. It is a standard way the weather service measured humidity for years. I admit that it wasn't as fun as the two tiny carved figures hung on a thin gut string popping in and out of a Bavarian hut, but it shut down dissention.

I still have one of these around somewhere! We used to carry it from place to place and watch them dance when put in steamy bathrooms, near a boiling pot on the stove, etc.

Those were the days! Those characters were much more entertaining than the paper that turned from blue to pink. People born later missed out on so much. Wet towels over a radiator so your nose didn't crack and bleed, cooking lots of stew on cold winter days, watching snowy overshoes dry out in a couple of hours, zapping the innocent and unaware in strange places after scuffing the carpet.
