My lawn guy charges the same price as last year; however, he never just does the lawn, but does weeding or planting with me as needed. I pay him some extra for that depending on the volume of work. He also charges a set rate for weed eating my lake lot (no mowing necessary, as it's woodland), and sends pics afterwards since it's 45 minutes away from my house. He's so trustworthy I would never doubt him anyway.

I’ve never given myself a raise. I suppose I could stop work, but my wife might retaliate and I’m not sure I want to go down that road….

So I’ll keep maintaining the property.

As an employee, you can't "give" yourself a raise but you can request a raise and/or to look for other employment. And you have less leverage if you only have one primary employer.

I think there are two types of "lawn man", a person operating on their own (i.e. the proverbial college kid working to pay tuition) or a business with employees and policies. Either way, they are not your employee and you are not their only employer.

Businesses increase the prices of their services all the time. They must always consider the market and whether they will lose many customers.

I fought the lawn and the lawn won!

Default Lawnman?

Never.
Our lawn service companies were lousy.
So, we did it ourselves for 7 years.
Then, last Fall we removed all turf and went Colorado native plants.
Sold the lawnmower.
Very happy.

I need to hire a lawn service here in SW Florida. What is the usual rate? Do they just do cut, edging and weed whacking? Do they pull weeds or put mulch down for you? I just can't continue to do all of this myself and frankly, I don't want to anymore in this Florida heat.

They do whatever you pay them to do. If you just want the cheapest price, hire a lawn service where random guys show up weekly who know little more than how to mow and whack. If you want someone to take care of your lawn and ensure it's healthy, then an independent lawn specialist will be more expensive. You'll also have to vet the latter because many will claim to know more than they do.
