I have retired an old cast iron gas woodstove heater. The unit is becoming hard to light and keep lit, and most importantly I don't want gas burning in the bedroom. So, out the gas heater goes.

I am wondering what are the options to dispose of this type of old heater. Can these be sold? For parts? For scrap metal? It is at least 100 lbs. Anything that can offset the high cost of a new wood stove would be nice. Seems cast iron woodburning heaters are $1000 and up....

Any use for an old cast iron gas fireplace? (100 lbs of metal)-gas-woodstove.jpg

Prop it up correctly on the floor, take pictures and post on eBay. See if there is any interest.
Check if you find anything similar there:

It would have to be sold locally, but you could get a price idea.

Call your scrap metal place and ask how much they would pay.

If this is antique, try to sell as such...

They make good wildfire starters! Oh wait! That’s not a problem- in Cali!!!

Could make a good boat anchor!

Recycle the metal- some pocket change that might buy a 6pack for all the effort of loading and unloading!

Body disposal in a deep body of water.
Not that I would know anything about that.

Drag it out to the curb, put it on Craigslist "free stuff", and it'll disappear in a couple of hours.

At the very least you can take it and sell it to the metal recyclers. But the posting on ebay or Nextdoor is a good idea. Someone might be happy to buy it from you.
