Not saying all of you are wrong, but some research I have done seems to say it's ok, esp when the floors are sealed, like mine are, and that steam cleaning your hw floors - when done properly - does not ruin them.
The microfiber mop and Bona solution I use work, but they tend to push things like bacteria, et al around, and the solution seems to attract dirt.

Cheers.
If you believe that, then I would suggest contacting the manufacturer of your floor and ask THEM what steam cleaner will not void your warranty. My guess is, their answer will be "none"
I don't. They were already installed when I bought the place. How does someone who buys a house know where their previously installed floors came from, esp when they were not installed by the previous owner?

Because it is generally NOT recommended. The maker of MY floors strictly warns to NOT do so. This is straight out of my care booklet:
Steam cleaners should never be used on a wood floor. The combination of heat, moisture and pressure could be very damaging to the wood. For similar reasons, never use a completely wet mop or cloth when cleaning the floor, and instead use only a slightly damp mop or cloth
