Another Consumer Reports recommendation was to "skip the matching dryer." The best washer and the best dryer, according to their rankings of both performance and value, were not always the same brand.
Their tests of the steam feature found it did help remove stains. But they said the front loaders very efficiently cleaned and sanitized with or without the steam.

I'm not picky either doesn't have to be perfectly ironed or starched.
I have the LG Tromm. I'll never own a washing machine that does not have the steam feature again.

I can steam clothes between two and three times before they need to go to the dry cleaner again. Polo shirts are what the steam W/D seems to have been made for.

I have the Whirlpool Cabrio toploaing set w/o an agitator. (basically a front loader flipped vertically ). I can say the steam function seems to be a gimmick, but I have only tried it with button down long sleeve shirts. Plus since bestbuy messed up my order, they gave it to me for 20% off. It did not take out the wrinkles. I opted for the Steam Gas Dryer instead of Electric. I can say the dryer is very fast, and I like it. But what I have learned, don't mix thin clothes with thick clothes...because sometimes the sensor i guess reads that some of the clothes are dry and stops....I noticed that when this happens I can still feel a slight dampness on the thick clothes....nothing 5-10 minutes of timed drying wont fix.
