We have a home that has dry rot in flooring in bath room, and it has the flooring not only nailed down, but glued as well. The Question is how is the best way to remove this flooring?
I had to tear out the plywood subfloor, repair the damaged floor joists, and put down new subfloor. A crowbar and a circular saw were the best tools for the demo part of the job.
I'd add a sawzall and cats paw and engineer's hammer.
I agree.
I also think this is no job for some one with little construction experience. It could be done but cutting the sub floor tight to the sole plate and along the bath tub with the sawzall is challenging. Hit that fiberglass tub with your blade and your in for some real surgery.
I have seen some times people will take out the tub too but that always is not necessary even if there is much rot under it.
Take everything out, including the tub, and then remove the subfloor by cutting along the sides of the joists and prying off the remaining strips. This is a big nasty job. Good luck and watch out for wires in the basement that you may hit with the saws. Be careful not to fall through the open floor.
Had the same in my house. We took out EVERYTHING and ripped the floor up. While waiting for my "help" to reinstall the flooring I learned to aim quite well lol
PS don't forget to keep your cat out of there or she'll end up in the crawlspace
