Michigan, Fight is on over large cell phone towers.
Community leaders have long battled wireless providers over building large cell phone towers in their cities, states and towns.

They aren't very attractive, and the jury is still out as to whether they actually cause any harm. But about 10 years ago a friend of mine was paid very handsomely for allowing one to be built on his property. He is getting a good chunk of change each year for something like 20 years. I think I could get used living next to one if I was being paid for it

As part of a former position, I had to negotiate cell phone antenna location contracts with a major hotel chain on behalf of another division of my company. Holy cow, I couldn't believe the numbers we were throwing on the table just to put a set of three antennas on the roof of the hotels (wasted space pays handsomely!).
Seriously considered a house near one. The tower actually protects the house against direct lightning strikes, since it has to be properly grounded to a much higher spec than home wiring, and sits a far enough distance away that the currents in the ground from a direct strike aren't much of an issue. If the house sits near the top of a hill, this is a good thing. OTOH, not something I'd want to be near in a tornado, and there could be restrictions that would be a PITA. I'd have to get the place for substantially less than comps in the area before being interested.
OMG I have begged, pleaded and practically bribed my local cell phone provider to PLEASE put a tower on my property. I would *love* to be paid $20 - $30k per year for the privilege of staring at one of those darn things! LOL
