this isn't my house, but one we're looking at. what kind of plant, tree, shrubbery would you suggest for the front of the house to the left where there's that big empty spot due to the sloping lot? infront of the darker siding. i don't really like any of the plants they have infront of the house now (almost switch the tall and short plants all together. the talls ones are infront of the short porch and the short are infront of the tall empty spot).

i'm mainly curious about that one section though, what to put there? anyone else have a similiar front?

thanks!

Lovely house.......personally i'd put a tree there. I really like the purple smoke tree but you might want something that looks lush for all seasons. The roots will help keep the soil from eroding and slowly creating a bigger slope. Planted far enough away from the house of course

I think your choice would be best determined by taking the photo to a local landscaper/nursery in your area. What direction does the house face? hours of direct sun etc all play a factor in selection. I would suggest some type of ornamental tree that would accent your home, but the type would be hard to say. ask one of your local experts for the best choices!

overtaxedunderpaided - thank you! i think it's cute too and am also worried about erosion, but hopefully like you said, with roots it won't be such an issue. the purple smoke tree is cute! and i was also thinking a shade of purple/gray to go w/ the stone.

sgresident - the house faces east/west i believe, w/ west being the front. another ornamental tree vote. great! i agree that going to a landscaper is the best option, just wondered if anyone here had a creative option or some advice from experience. thanks!

would you all think a tree w/ a trunk (like the purple smoke has a small trunk or another type of ornamental tree) or more of a shrub that would be full all the way through? i can't decide which would look better and cover the emptiness. and then would i do two shrubs or one tree? there are a ton of options i'm sure. thanks again!

I'd put the same stone that is on the right side of the house, onto the left side, from the ground to the bottom of the fence. I think that would really balance the house out visually.
