My 10 year old side by side Whirlpool just broke down. What is a top rated one to get quick......want a bottom freezer drawer and side by side on top. Called French Door model. What about LG brand? Need some advice.

I am fridge shopping too (same type) - my Dad told me to check out Brandsmart as they were running a special where it was stainless at $1200. I've been to busy to look into it, but supposedly it is in their current ad. I have no idea if is a good model or not, I just know it is a lot less than the samsung I've been looking at.
I did some research and an LG model got a 5 star rating. Home Depot has it for 1499.00 as everyone else does, but for two days they have a 10% off. Someone who bought this fridge said it has the features of a higher priced refridge. I have decided against the door front ice and water dispencer. They now make it inside but I am only interested in the automatic inside icemaker.
The model number of the French Door LG that is higly rated is.... LG Electronics 25.0 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - LFC25770SW at The Home Depot
It comes in white, black and stainless.
I will look into that. This might sound really silly -but what I like the most about the Samsungs is the handle for the freezer, some have handles that are flexible (I think thats the appropriate term) and it makes it easier to open.
Samsungs are rated low...I would steer clear of a Samsung. They do not even make good cell phones! I also looked at them until I read some bad reviews.
These are just a few....there are tons of more complaints.
Amana has a good rating as does LG but they are too plain looking too me.
I am going to Home Depot tomorrow to get my LG while it is the last day of 10% off sale I believe.
$1,500 for a refrigerator! I bought a SEARS unit 4 years ago for about $400. I still have the firgidaie freezer i bought used 20 years ago for $200. $1500 for a fridge? Yikes!
low budget= scratch and ding/discontinued models from your local appliance store are usually the best deal around, have better warranty/customer svc relationships, and if you pay by credit card often there's a free extended warranty offered by your credit card company.
High energy efficiency= as per consumer reports, avoid ice maker units because the energy star ratings for those appliances did not include activating the ice maker as part of their test (all mfgs). Deception is afoot for consumers there.
Online consumer reports edition for a month of research access is about $8. Not all models have been evaluated by them, as I found out when checking on a washing machine I'm interested in getting.
No luck at home depot, you can always comparison shop at nextag.com
I have the Whirlpool Gold Series French Door on top and slide freezer on the bottom, I love, love, love my refrigerator. It took me months to decide, but in the end it was well worth it.... Whirlpool Model: GX5FHDXVB, internal filtered water/ice feature among tons of other features, including Energy Star...I have all Whirlpool Appliances, and they have been rated as one of the more reliable brands...Good Luck...I purchased the refrigerator at Lowes last year, they were giving Energy Star Rebate and free delivery and it was on the sale price. Again, good luck and happy shopping.
I figured I would go the repair route first. The guy is here for 65 bucks to diagnose the Whirlpool here that broke. It is only 8 years old.. He was able to reset the temp and get it going. It will need at least a new thermostat and who knows what else. He is running tests on it.
GregW...my sister spent over 3,000 for her fridge and over 2,000 for her dishwasher...crazy! I saw a Frigidaire Refridge online for 7200.00 that is really crazy!
