Update, got my roof done, and in January snow! 3500 for materials, went with weathered wood asphalt shingles, there wasn't a stitch of plywood under the shake, it took 95 sheets! at an additional cost of around $800. Labor was 4K, and it took two industrial dumpsters to haul off old roof. Thanks for all the great advice!
Hi I have a question....THe bottom half of my roof tooka beating due to ice this winter and the shingles are in nee of replacement as well as the valleys.....The rest of the shingles are in good shape. Is there a need to do the whole roof in new shingles or can I just replace the bottom 10 or so rows. Has anyone done this before....
It depends on now old the roof is really. The shingles are not goig to really match and if very old and the valleys and edges are a problem the others may not show it but are likely getting there. If so that could mean more expense by doing the rest in a couple of years.Have a good trusted roofing contractor look at it.
