I try to make it to November 1. As long as we have sunny days, my house stays warm (it's a flippin' brick oven!). It the cloudy days that get me to flip on the furnace.
Ours is not on yet. I am in northern Ohio right on Lake Erie. It is hard to believe it was actually colder at our home in SC than it was here last night! It will be turned on soon, I am sure.
Yes, I caved in and turned mine on yesterday too. There was a threat of freezing reported for last night so I figured why not. I only kept it on for a few hours though before turning it off. NYC/NJ metro area here.
I've turned the thermostat up to 60 a couple days ago but I don't think the heat has kicked on yet. Then again, I'm almost never at my house anyway, not for more than a couple hours a day, so I won't know until I see the bill how much it's been on. In any case, I've got a 93% efficiency furnace and lots of new insulation in my house so heating it doesn't cost me much anyway.
My heat has been on for over a month. Of course, I'm in Germany (Bavaria) right now. Where my house is in South Carolina (parents are living in it), heat is not on yet. In fact, air conditioner was just turned off about a week and a half ago!
Haven't used the heat yet. But I have an electric fireplace that works as a space heater and I've used that for a few hours here and there. I probably should at least test the heat; I had a new heat pump installed in July and it worked great as an air conditioner but I should test it to make sure that the heat part also works.
Mine's been on for awhile. I keep my thermostat anywhere between 70 and 75. I can't stand the cold.
