It would be very helpful too know just how old and what type of unit this is because this is very common on the older units !!!

When this happens on the older ones, this will send a signal to the sensitivity settings and it thinks something is not adjusted correctly !!!

Is your garage door opener a DIP switch opener, billion code, or rolling code? As DIP switch models age, it is quite possible for your garage to open when a neighbor opens theirs, especially if your neighbor's garage door opener is a 390MHz rolling code model manufactured between 1997 and 2005 (orange or red learn button on Chamberlain, Craftsman, and LiftMaster units). DIP switch openers (especially if they lack safety sensors) should be replaced by rolling code models if possible, since they provide better safety and security. My brand of choice is LiftMaster, however, they are only sold by professional installers, so if you want to buy a unit from a big box store, your only choices are Chamberlain or Genie (or Craftsman if you buy at Sears).

Sorry, I have no ideas on this. I have been watching though as my curiosity has been "killing" me.

There have been many responses as to what could cause the door to open "randomly" but little really that would tie it to a power outage and the return of power.

I am curious though, can you replicate the situation by either unplugging and re-plugging the power cord, or by flipping the breaker off and back on? If so, does it happen every time you cut the power off and back on? Does the power need to be off for a certain length of time for this to happen or does it happen with just a momentary interruption of the power.

If you run these tests and always get the same results, I think it would be safe to eliminate interference from a neighboring or passing remote. Not really a solution suggestion, but could narrow it down.

About twenty years ago, I had a TV that would turn itself on at all different hours. 2-3-4 AM was a bit too much. That TV went to the place for dysfunctional TV's and was replaced by a new one.
If your garage door opener is opening the door without you doing it, I suggest you toss it and replace it with a new one to set your mind at ease. If the local burglars see an open door for a few hours, it's an invitation to clean you out.

Our door did the same thing for a few months. Then one day it wouldn't open at all with the remotes or the button inside the garage. When my husband went in the attic to check the wiring it was apparant that mice (or something similar) had been chewing the wires. He replaced the wires and no more problems.
