I recently purchased a home (2 weeks ago) and I am having a problem with crickets. I have seen them in the garage several times (and outside as well), but they are also IN my house. I just killed the 3rd one inside my house. Is there anything to get rid of them? Is this something I should worry about? (And, why are the still around in November?!)

I think they must go through cycles (like cicadas) - NoVa here, but twice in the last 15 yrs. at this house we had an issue w/them - then, NOTHING, no sign of them in or out. Maybe give it until next season? Does seem kind of late in the yr. for them though.

Get a cat <grin> My cat considers it her duty to track down and take out any cricket in the house. A house gecko will work, too. I know some folks who keep reptiles, which generally means housing crickets, too. They have a Tokay Gecko or two free range in their reptile room to collect the escapees.

They're looking for a warmer place and food. Crickets have a way of getting through small cracks and gaps in houses. They're a pest and can drive you crazy with their chirping at night. To catch them place a loosely folded damp cloth on the floor where you know they frequent. They like the dampness and cover for protection. Scoop up the cloth in the morning and immediately take it outside and shake. You'll often catch the little critter that otherwise has eluded you...

Gekkos eat crickets. So do Tarantulas. Just buy a few of either and release them.

But to not forget to enjoy the wonderful evening songs fromt he crickets before you destroy them.

someone told me that crickets will eat clothing like moths. Anyone know if that is true?

Crickets are omnivores. They eat anything from seedlings to rotting vegetation to even other, smaller bugs. They gather moisture from the food they consume. They do not eat clothing and are not a threat of doing any damage. They're just a pest when they are inside the house. If they are outside, just enjoy their evening songs!

Something my Grandma told me along time ago. Its an old wives tale though. When you get crickets in your house its a sign of good fortune. Now, she does use one of those plug in pest deterants and it works well.
