A British housing association has apologized to a homeowner who was told to remove her Christmas lights so they would not offend non-Christian neighbors.
At this time of year, Dorothy Glenn's home in South Shields sports hundreds of festive lights and a giant tree with a 4-foot Santa Claus, The Daily Mail reported Monday.

I thought that crap was dieing out? What about those who are offended by NO CHRISTMAS lights? This has gotten way out of hand. Even the big box stores have felt the pressure to start calling it what it is:
CHRISTMAS !!!!!!!!!!
What the hell is a holiday tree anyway? Most stores like Walmart, Target, Pennys and Macys have felt the word of the people who have spoken. Walmart reports sales have gone up when they once again began to have Christmas sales rather then holiday sales. What holiday? That offends me. I guess its ok to offend Americans who were born and raised here.
The good news is all that holdiay crap is just about dead.
Christmas is back again, has it has been for hundreds of years.

On the one hand I support personal freedoms. On the other hand, there is a house in my community that has gone way, way overboard on Xmas lights and I would NOT be happy if I lived next door. So, I think that you have to take both points of view into consdideration and compromise if necessary so that no one's freedoms are infringed upon.

FYI - the Daily Mail is the UK's National Enquirer, and about as trustworthy in their fact-checking (John Edwards' scandal aside).
Other reports say that a "council worker" suggested that she should remove or reduce them, but the Council itself said that there is absolutely no policy in place against light displays, nor was she officially asked to remove them.

I woudl be inclined to spell out a far less congenial message with my lights if I were her.

It's sad that so many people are upset with what others do with their lives. Who cares if they put up Christmas lights to celebrate Christmas? Nobody is stopping anyone from showing their celebration for any other holidays. Why do people get offended when Christmas is celebrated? Why is a holiday wrong to celebrate at all? Who gives anyone the right to tell others that they can not celebrate a holiday? Can't everyone just celebrate whatever holidays they want, when they want, how they want? I mean, come on people. Let them do what they want. They aren't doing anything to you. You do your own thing and let them do theirs. No need to butt into other peoples personal lives and tell them that what they believe in is wrong or should not be publicly displayed. Get over yourselves. Really.
