Why does my wife put sheets on like this. (toilet, washing, mattress)

While helping make beds today, we put the sheets on, I asked. Why do you put the wide hem at the head of the bed? She told me. Because that is where it belongs. I want to know who made this decision? Why can't the narrow hem be at the head and the wide hem at the foot? Does anyone know?
Location: Sometimes Maryland, sometimes NoVA. Depends on the day of the week

Because that the way sheets go and the wide hem is the top. Putting the narrow hem at the top would be like wearing your undies inside out. Why do you not do that?
It looks better when you make the bed and is more comfortable against your neck. But its mostly a decorative thing.

I put the wide hem at the top because the washing instructions tag is generally at the bottom and I don;t want to look at or feel the scratchy tag. Often the wide hem has some sort of decorative border as well (a printed pattern, embroidery, lace).

I put my top sheet on with the right/ pattern side facing downward so that when I fold the sheet down the pattern and my family crest and the decorative wide hem will show.
I think I read that in the official bed makers handbook somewhere.

Well, if it didn't matter, both hems would be of equal width, wouldn't they?!

Putting the narrow hem at the top would be like wearing your undies inside out. Why do you not do that? 
My wife short-sheets my side of the bed!
