They now make CFL bulbs that work on dimmers,...or so the package claims. I don't have a dimmer switch so I can't tell you if they work as promised but you can try.

They work fine but do not last and are insanely expensive

You may have to call him and specify what you want. The guy's name is frank. Make sure you have plenty of time when you call because he likes to talk.

I'm not the biggest fan of that purple tint, though. Sylvania "Daylight" are my personal favorite. Similar, but the tint is closer to green; not unlike a grow-bulb.

I have 47 lights controlled by 9 different dimmer switches. Ninteen bulbs are halogen, the rest are incandescent. I cannot stand CFLs either. I rarely turn on my fluorescent lighting in my office at work.

I'm hoping there is an affordable dimmable LED option before the incandescents disappear.

I also had the problem with short life spans of GE Reveals. I now just buy the cheap plain old plain old incandescents. They last long enough for me to get my money's worth, and I don't feel like I'm wasting energy by using them rather than the more efficient fluorescents because we only keep lights on when and where they're needed and turn them off when they're not.
I agree, about the wasting of energy.....

I have all halogen lights in most of the rooms because of track lights, and I like track lights, so they are staying. But most times they are off as we like to watch TV in the dark.

The bathroom I use regular bulbs, I have no time to wait for the bulb to be bright when I need to be in the bathroom.

Besides in an apartment, like how much money is it really going to save me if I chose to use the energy efficient bulbs. Plus they are ugly looking anyway, and I do not like the cast of fluorescent lighting, I think it is just ugly.

All LED's are dimmable; however, affordable they are not.

I think we'll see more options in the next 18-24 months and much lower prices. Its still an emerging technology for home use.

I was @ home depot the other day, and they've got 6" recessed light trims w/ an integrated LED lamp. It looks like a great solution, but they're $45 ea.

I think right now they can justify those costs because of the "green" movement, and the fact people are buying them by choice and not necessity.

Someone will eventually come along and offer them at a reasonable price.

Me too, headaches so bad, which can sometimes make me nauseous. I hate fluorescent lights, and hate that people have those crappy CFL's in their homes.

I hope LED bulbs get cheap fast so people get rid of those nasty bulbs. Hate to have to read with CFL's too, the light is so terrible. Even if they didn't make me sick I wouldn't want them for anything.

"Green" is a con to get people to buy new stuff while feeling virtuous; Americans love virtue as a product they can buy.
