The soles of your shoes are insulators, so the charge builds up in your body and cannot drain off through your feet. Take off your shoes when you come in the front door, and put them back on again when you go out.

I swear this WORKS so please try it!!

If you notice their fur is getting a static charge, SPIT in your hand and rub it on their fur. You only need a LITTLE bit of spit, so don't go crazy!!

Of course water works if you have access. It sounds gross but your cats won't care.

Every time I suggest this to someone they want to know why it works!! I don't know why it works, but I know it does work 100% of the time with my 2 cats.

Water neutralizes static electricity - that's the simple explanation. Spitting on your hand is along the same line as having a humidifier - to increase moisture. The scientific explanation has to do with unbalanced states of electrons, and how molecules desperately want to be balanced, but I won't go there :-)

Yep, I agree it's your humidity levels. I had the same problem at one time. Your humidifier isn't doing the job. You may need a bigger 'whole house' humidifier. You definitely need a hygrometer to check your humidity levels. I'll bet they're low.

You may also want to seal your house a bit with caulking wherever there are leaks. The more you seal, the higher your humidity will go. This is where the dry air is entering the house and causing the static. I did that as well and it helped. Your T-stat and humidifier will thank you as well. good luck.
