I'm looking for an air filtration system that connects to my furnace since we have some allergies. Also I hear that installing one can really cut down on dust inside your home. Less dusting would be a plus indeed.
If you have one, what brand do you use & what do they cost?
We have an Aprilaire one that we had put in when the house was built. Can't recall the origianal cost. But the filters that need to be replaced about once a year (or more) depending on conditions are $50. Also, the manner in which ours are hooked up is not easy access so we pay someone to do it. Expensive but does help with dust, etc. and when we had the fires come near our home a couple years back, the filters really helped with smoke, soot control. HOH
When I installed central air/heat in my bothers home, I also installed a hepa filter box. His Tempstar unit has a variable speed blower and it circulates 24/7...
He said the difference in dust buildup was very noticeable. Single story ranch home, 2250 square feet.

That sounds good, do you know what the unit + installation cost?
I will have to ask him if there is a brand name...
I'm thinking the filter box is nothing special and just has slides for standard commercial hepa industrial bag filters...
Installation cost was zero courtesy of me... I'm not in the HVAC business, although I'm responsible for a Hospital HVAC system and have become very familiar troubleshooting carrier products.
My spouse has two lung diseases. I have allergies. I use the American Lunng Association approved fileters by 3M with a rating of 1200 or highter and I change them ever TWO weeks. Tney catcjh mold spores, bacteria, virus, dust mites, pet dander, smoke and a couple other problems. Havne't had colds, flu or flu shots or sick from antying in mover than two years. Its expensive but I know the air is clean. The trick to managing allergies is to keep the doors and windows shut 24/365, change the filters - I don't care what it says on the package, or what the furnae guy says. If in two weeks the white filter is brown, its time to change. Do not invite sick people into the house and on ot light a fireplace.
The filter exchange really does make a difference. .
