I swear I have never seen so many bad trends than houses built in the 1970s in terms of design, materials, architecture, etc.
I have been looking at some listings recently and have seen many 30+ year old properties:
What I have commonly found is:
Batten Board
Dutch Colonial Striping (Interior)
Linoleum Floors
Huge globular light fixtures
Wood Paneling
Dark Cabinets
Track Lighting
T-111 Siding
Enormous Flourescent Light Fixtures
Striped Wallpaper
Dark Thick Carpeting

Did anything good come out of the 70s in terms of houses?!

How about ugly ceramic tile colors? My guest bath had some ugly gold tile and my master bath had some ugly avacado green tile. And the tubs, toilets, and sinks also matched.

To make it worse, my grandparents built this house in '73 and my grandmother actually picked all of that stuff.

Oh ya, I forgot about the awful bathroom sink, toilet, and floor choices in the 70s too

We can't forget the copper shortage and the move to aluminum wiring.

But then, in 30 years what are they going to be saying about granite counter tops and finger print......... sorry, stainless steel appliances?

Bingo! Yep, folks, the the things that you think are absolutely wonderful? Your children - or grandchildren - will be wondering, "What were they thinking????"

LOL Couldn't agree more! Our orange shag carpet and dark paneling was considered very very cool back in '73. Looking back at the pictures now.........

Heck yeah, twenty years from now if you had a mint condition 70's era house with original appliances, carpeting and wallpaper you would probably have a treasure on your hands. Go, go avacoda!

Those cheap prefab laminated particle board cabinets also were popular in the 70's. By the time the 80's came around the corners were already peeling off . Cabinets are still mostly prefab today but at least they have gone back to using real wood doors.
