anyways if you are saling do it in white, with a paint that is easy to paint over.

You get better coverage if you use higher quality paints. (Benjamin Moore for example).

We are currently on our second home. The first home, I painted the family room the same color, Squire Hill Buff by Benjamin Moore. But then the living room (Raspberry Glace), dining room (Tate Olive) and kitchen (Newberry Port Blue), all on the first floor, were different colors; the unifying color being the SHB which also went up the stairs and then was in my son's BR on the second floor. What I did not like, is that I ended up with so many different colors, even though I loved each color individually. Does that make sense? Anyway, luckily when I put the home on the market I did not have to repaint. The only one that really scared me was the dark blue in the kitchen.

Well, with this home I am trying to be a little more cosistent. I'm going with many of the same colors, but trying to have the colors flow more from room to room. Using the same blue, using Blonde Wood again, and two new greens... Georgian Green and Weekend Getaway (a former Pottery Barn color). Anyway, I'll get around to posting pics one day. Let me know if you need them sooner.

Although I am quite familiar with aesthetics and color theory, I always paint all my walls some variation of white.

A boldly colored wall will call attention to itself, while a white wall gives a neutral space which will emphasize the furnishings and make whatever art you have hanging on the wall the decorative focal point.

White also makes the room feel larger and is brighter, which makes the window space or artificial lighting more efficient.

I moved into a house that had off white walls in the family room. I new the fireplace was beautiful but once I painted the wall behind it red it just jumped out at you. It was so much more beautiful with the bold color.

I agree with you. Since I painted my kitchen white, it feels so much more spacious and the blue cabinets add a calm, peaceful, inviting element. I'm having a lot of fun choosing accent pieces and flooring. White walls open up the possibilities.

I am going to repaint all the walls before I put my house on the market. The house is going to be empty. I just wanted to know what colors people like. Thanks for the thoughts.

If you're going for neutral you don't have to stick w/ white or off white. Try looking at samples of taupes, tans, creamy ivory, even grays, with either warm or cool hues whichever goes best with what other colors are already there, such as a gray undertone or a warmer more golden undertone. You can also paint most of the walls a light hue and pick an accent wall to paint a slightly darker hue of that same "color". This is interesting and attractive but still neutral. I have done variations of this in several condos that I've redone (rentals) and the lookers always comment positively and say "Oh it's so nice not to see everything white white white! First wash the walls and woodwork, repair any dents and nail holes, prime properly and use 2 coats of satin or eggshell, not flat. Beautiful results.

I too, like Behr and Valspar paint. I painted my house w/ Behr 5 years ago and the paint still looks brand new.

update- I have used the Behr 'Cotton' now in the 2 bedrooms and just finished the first coat in the hall bath. AND I am loving it- so clean looking and not a stark white. Gonna do the kitchen too!
(Home depot guy said that is a color they sell a lot of)
