We have a cape and are just trying to get a rough idea about dormering the entire rear of the house in the attic.
It is 30' wide, and 13' feet from the roof peak to the back of the house, 8' ceiling.
Siding, roofing, floor structure, finishing aside (so... the actual framing and, maybe windows???) I don't really have the slightest clue what we might be looking at.
Somewhere between $1000 and $50,000 seems about right.
You will have to have someone look at it and talk to you about what you want. You also may want to hire an architect to ensure that the windows match the architecturla style of your house, unless you have a newer McMansion type house that has bits of all architectural styles, then it really does nto matter.
Joe, all dormers / extensions come in different shapes and sizes. On the same block you live on I'm sure you'll see 3 different style homes that had renovation work completed, the price of any of those jobs is determined by the details and specifications of those jobs. Every home although they may look simliar on the outside are all different on the inside. Moderator cut: NO ADS

depends on where you are ... in the south you can probably do a half dormer for 30K and a full one for 50K .... but on long island, NY where I live it runs $50K for half and $100K for full (yes, it's a rip off here). also, depending on where you live, the workmanship will differ ... not only are we more expensive here, our contractors for the most part have low skill and work quality. joy.
Yo peeps-
This thread is almost 2yrs old. I think Joe gave up on the dormer because he just put an offer on a condo/townhouse.
