we have a very big arch window on the second floor facing east. every morning sunlight enters through that window falls on the floor. as the sun moves it moves too. i have a new dark hardwood floor and i am worried if the color of the floor fades due to constant exposure to sunlight over the period of time.
any idea other than putting blinds or curtains ???

There are window films that have UV inhibitors. Those could help. Surprisingly, some woods DARKEN in sunlight instead of bleaching.
Cherry Floors Darken From Sun Light | Home Construction Improvement

I'm working with cedar now. It bleaches out the reds when unfinished and left under light, and darkens when a finish is applied.

Harry is right. The UV is the culprit. Cover the windows with a a UV film barrier, or put up frpes, blinds, etc.

My previous house had the pre-stained floors and when I moved in they were bleached in spots. You could see the outline of furniture. They had no blinds on the windows.

My new house has never been lived in and it has been built for a year. There were no blinds and there are no bleach spots. These floors are the real deal. They were put down unstained and then stained. I would recommend blinds anyway.

The UV darkens cherry the quickest, oak comes next and maple will not darken but become more blond or like a dirty blond rather then the yellowish natural color.

Even without the UV rays, all woods will darken with age gracefully. The UV rays just speed things up.
