I have a fixture that uses 50w MR16 GU10 120v Halogen bulbs. They give off too much heat. Is there anything I can replace them with (such as a compact fluorescent)? tia

Those are the little bulbs with two stud connections on the back, right? My first instinct is that you're probably out of luck. I believe you can find the same bulbs in a lower wattage, though. I'm certain I've seen some 35 watt variants. That may mitigate the heat problem a bit.

EDIT: Look what a google search turned up... As a bonus, free shipping and no sales tax in most of the lower 48.

Good point. Difficult to argue with a 70,000 hour 2.5W bulb. I would like it a lot better if the output was more than 155 lumens, though.

I hope there is a team of scientists and engineers working around the clock to deliver more functional LED bulbs by 2010.

If a bulb fixture is controlled by a wall switch, you can control the heat and light output [but not a cfl] by installing a reostat [dimmer switch]

Does anyone still make rheostat dimmers? They may all be solid state nowadays.

The CFL will cause the cheaper reostat dimmers to actually hum very lightly.
