I am looking at a house to purchase in Russellville, Ky and it seems that most houses that are older have moisture issues under the houses. This house showed that moisture is in some of the beams, so I am having it checked for mold. Also, I understand that plastic needs to be put down under the house between the ground and the wood foundation, to keep the moisture issue controlled.
The under beams need added support, and the support beams added were too short to do the job. Now the floors in the house are not straight. I am wondering if the floors are reenforced with new beams, and then jacked up, if they will be able to fit the bill, and the problem will be fixed. I realize the floors will never be perfect, but was told if you use jacks that can be adjusted, that if the problem starts to occur again that you can adjust the jacks and help keep the issue at bay.
Any thoughts on this issue would be much appreciated. I love this house and the owner is willing to fix the issues, I just want to know exactly what I should ask for as I don't want just a temporary bandaid fix, I want the problem addressed correctly.
