Has there been any construction in your neighborhood or anywhere nearby? Has the municipality recently pathed the roads?
Once our township re-pathed the roads and the new pavement changed the way the water ran down the street. Instead of heading down the street to the sewers, the water turned and went right down the stairs into our yard, onto our patio and into the basement. We called the township and they came out and changed the pavement so the street water went into the sewer instead of our yard.
The same thing can happen if there is development nearby. Even one house being built can change everything. Since you haven't gone outside during the rain, you can't know how the water is getting to your house. You really do need to watch outside and inside. Inside is important because you need to see which side of the basement is getting the water so you know where to look outside.
I have seen on TV a camera mounted on the end of a long tube and used for inspection of water pipes, etc. If you can find one of these, or find someone who does inspections using one, I would suggest running it down all your drainage pipes and see if there is a blockage in one.
I tried Googling these but had little luck. Mainly because I don't know what they are called.

No road work. You are right about watching outdoors during a downpour. Problem is, I have to be home. Guess the wife'll have to do it.
Sure I already know where it leaks in, etc., that is clear. Now I wait.
Fortunately it doesn't often rain very heavy here, at worst, so far 3-4- gallons, hardly one for Noah!
Gutter guys have been 4X already, they are more than capable and loyal, but I have them stumped too.
Well, I don't know what they are called either but like you I know what they look like!
This is stuff that Roto Rooter does. It MAY turn out to be necessary, but I exhaust all the other possibilities first. Those guys can be expensive (although since the problem only began after my gutter guys replaced my old gutters, maybe they'll pay!
Thanks for your reply. Actually deep down I like problems like this; they have a solution but you have to think & work like hell to find it.
They had to do it at my house a couple of years ago.

Still maybe I get the gutter guys to pay for it ... they're fair. (No problem before old gutters were replaced)
