There is one downspout which is very difficult to access. Yet our house at that end is surrounded by pine trees with short needles which constantly accumulate in gutters there and clog the downspout trap in no time at all, causing rainwater overflows. (Let alone the needles washing down from valleys)
What risks am I running if I remove the guard? I am not worried so much about downspout clogs, but, as it connects to a storm sewer, I AM worried about clogging up the trap in the basement.
What do you think? As I wrote, they are short needles & there are no leaves.
(2) Any thoughts on the advantages of using the old-fashioned light bulb shaped traps versus the newer ones which have holes in them. The newer

ones seem too restrictive to me.
