I have dogs so can't use poison.

Get the little bait boxes (look like a little house with a small hole in the side.) Put the poison inside the box, the mice go into the box, eat the bait and go back to their nest and RIP. The boxes are metal and you put them around the exterior perimeter of your house. The trick is to prevent the buggers from getting in your house in the first place and this really works! The opening in the box is too small for a dog to get into. We have a service that does this for us (changes the bait, monthly) but you can buy the boxes at Home Depot and do it yourself if you are so inclined. Also, cut back any vines or branches that go up to your roof line to help prevent access that way. Good luck!

Get an exterminator. We put out traps and couldn't get rid of them. Had an exterminator come in, less than $200 (in New Jersey which everything is more) and he got rid of them right away. He was fantastic, searched the house, put traps where needed (apparently the problem was worse than we thought) and found the hole the were coming in from the outside.

Gessa, you're not alone in finding a remedy to get rid of mice. There have been a lot of ideas posted in the past in city-data. Some are very pet-friendly.

Run a Search - choose Advanced Search, then put Mice in the keyword box, and then choose some specific forums such as House and/or Garden (hold down your control button to make multiple choices). Up will pop a whole bunch of threads talking about mice control.

Get a cat and ddo not feed it. It will hunt. Sometimes it will even bring you the dead nice to share. It you are asleep it will leave them on your pillow. Cats are so sweet.

We found that if you fumigate (use raid fumigators, not foggers) it also kills the mice. You probbaly do not want your cat to eat those mice though. Plus you then have rotting dead mice in your walls. Traps and cats always worked well for us. If traps are not working, chang eth ebait. Peanut butter works great.

Ditto Coldjensens. [A fellow old house enthusiast.] Hungry Cat + Plain Old Traps = No Mice.

Thanks All.

The only prob with the cat solution is that my dogs are not cat friendly (you can also add squirrels to that list). The problem with the bait solution is that I am afraid that the poisoned mouse would die in plain sight and the dogs would eat / play with it....

vervuegirl - I am also in NJ, Jersey City, if you live near, could you pass me the details of the exterminator?
