Just replaced my water filter in my GE fridge $40!!!! This is such a rip off.
First we have a three and a half year old fridge which we have to use a mini heater now and then when the water dispenser freezes up. I have to open the door (side by side) and blow the heat into the dispensing area. This is proceded by moving frozen food to back and placing a large towel to keep in the cold.
Repairman says there is nothing we can do other than replace the door. This particular model had a problem with the insullation in the door. Lucky us.
I boycott GE as much as I can due to their arms dealings. But you are right...I calculated the filter cost for 10 years for my appliance- makes the refrigerator double or triple in price- so not worth it!
We don't use the filter and we are still alive and kicking. We were going through them so quickly and even when buying on eBay, they are still expensive. I used to buy all our fridge and furnace filters on eBay (we do, however, change the furnace filter as required, LOL).
Vulcan machine guns for aircraft, among other stuff. Most large manufacturing has been involved with armaments at one time or another. No big deal for me. Personally, I'm glad the capability is here and not offshore.
Did you check Amazon.com....I buy mine there but it is $29 so not cheap but may be better. Also, no shipping or taxes.
