Refrigerator freezing in regular refrigerator compartment-what could it be? (pool, heater, drain)

This morning our 11 year old Admiral side by side had milk, juice, etc.,, frozen solid. Thermostat settings haven't been changed. Recently we noticed water dripping inside freezer from icemaker and ice became stuck inside vessel and would not shoot out the door dispenser. I don't know whether to call a repairman (not on friday night) or plan to get a new fridge. Doesn't sound like a cheap repair considering the age of the appliance. Do any of you think it would be worth it?

If it's an auto defrost, sometimes the drain line gets frozen shut and can reek havoc. It happened with a Whirlpool Freezerator of mine. The top section was a fridge and the bottom a freezer.

I had to remove everything and let it defrost 100% by unplugging for about 5 hours, then started it back up and it ran fine again. I pulled the thing apart and verified the drain tube was 100% clogged shut with ice build up, which caused water flowing everywhere else but the drain tube, which clogged up the cold air vents that led to the freezer, blah, blah..

Not sure if this might cure your ills, but it did mine.

Probably either the temperature dial is set too low, or it is broken, or the fridge needs to be cleaned. Defrost it, then celan all of the accumulated dust and dirt out of the coils compressor and everywhere else in the back and underneath, then see if it stops freezing.

I have an Amana AFD2535.The evaperator coil in blocked with ice .I know on the older refrierators there is a defrost timer.Not so on this one. I would like to know what actuates the defrost heater. Also if it is a board where is it and can a defroat cycle be actuated manually?
