There will be a house in foreclosure that my mom is interested in. She could not buy it because it was on short sale and because the owner was in debt. What can she do about it?

I would suggest you put this into the Real Estate Threads where there are many experts there to answer your question.

Find out if the current owner has any weaknesses (addictions, gambling, whatever) and prey on them. Sewing a little marital discord will help the process along. You could try stalking them as well, make them feel unsafe in the home. They may just end up leaving.

Is this what you're asking? Kind of unethical if you ask me, but if you really want to house to go into foreclosure it's a safe bet.

Maybe I'm being dense but if the house will be in foreclosure, why can't your mom buy it? That's what banks like:to sell their foreclosures so they're not stuck paying taxes and insurance and up-keep.

And if it's up for short sale it's already for sale so, again, why can't your mom buy it?

I thought the same thing.
Plus, in the title, it is the OP buying the house; inside the mom is buying the house.

Confusing...
